O Rosal, 11 September 2026. Santiago Lago-Peñas, Director of the Economic Forum of Galicia, took part in the II Terras Gauda Rural Forum, held on 11 September at Bodegas Terras Gauda to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Galicia’s agri-food sector in the current international context.

Lago-Peñas participated in the opening of the forum alongside Víctor Nogueira, President of the Economic Forum of Galicia, and Antón Fonseca, CEO of Grupo Terras Gauda. The meeting brought together representatives from the agri-food sector, universities, public administrations, regulatory councils and agricultural organisations to examine the effects of recent geopolitical and trade developments on Galicia’s agri-food production.

The programme focused on some of the main issues currently shaping the international environment, including changes in European Union trade policy, the EU-Mercosur agreement and the impact of geopolitical tensions on international trade and supply chains.

The discussions highlighted the importance of greater stability and predictability in the international context. Geopolitical tensions, changes in trade policy and the security of global supply chains are increasingly relevant for a sector that plays an important role in Galicia’s economy.

For Lago-Peñas and the Economic Forum of Galicia, the meeting provided an opportunity to bring together different perspectives on these challenges and to promote discussion between the academic community, public institutions and the productive sector.
